Dan Leeson, in the discussions of the Gran Partita recording in Massey Hall
in Toronto said (in Part):
>While the equipment used was state of the art, the recording session
>was plagued with noise due to the fact that Massey Hall (named after
>the family of the great actor Raymond Massey) was an old facility
>in the middle of town with very little soundproofing. So when we
>were recording and a truck went by, we had to stop and start again.
I had been in Massey Hall a number of years ago and seemed to recall a
connection to Vincent Massey. I found a web site for Massey Hall and
eventually got a response from someone at the Hall as follows:
>Massey Hall was named after Charles Massey. He was the son of Hart
Massey,
>founder of Massey Ferguson Industries Limited - the world renowned maker
of
>farm equipment. Raymond Massey was Hart Massey's nephew, and Raymond's
>brother Vincent served as Governor General from 1952 to 1959.
(Incidently,
>it has been said that Vincent Massey was the better actor of the two!)
So - It appears that Massey Hall was named after the uncle of both Raymond
and Vincent, and the family connection is the same in either case!
