They are invited to the Semi-finals Junior Division. This Quintet is really
good. All (but Ron) study with Phila. Orch. members (Flutist w/Kahner), and
take lessons on full scholarship as part of the Settlement School Advanced
Studies program (1 scholarship per quintet instrument to study with a
Phila. Orch member, or "equivalent level teacher").
Dennis Bamber is on the Fischoff Board maybe I should "give him a call" ;)
(kidding of course)
I do hope that they have separate divisions. The CD that is out of the
Competition doesn't have any Woodwind Quintets on it (except a Sax group)!

Hi David,
That's great. Congratulations! Is he competing in the Junior division?
My string quartet is a group of high school seniors (all girls; called the
Firebird Quartet), so they are.
In the Junior division, I believe they have separate prizes for winds and
strings provided there are enough groups. I heard that they invited 6
groups directly to the semi-finals in the Junior Division and another 26
groups to the quarter-finals. From the quarter-finals groups, they will
pick another 6 groups to enter the semi-finals.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
Good luck to your student!
Best regards,
Jonathan
