As a player who has "been there, done that..."
Back in my high school years in NJ (not *too* long ago), for
regional/all-state auditions, there were four pieces that generally
Hindemith Sonata, Mozart Concerto (1st mvt only I believe), von Weber
Concertino, and Rabaud Contest Solo.
As an educator, I don't think I'd change that list. IMHO, each piece
will show pretty well what the player can or cannot do.
