You're talking about a different K&M stand than I am. The one I
own (as do many others, no doubt) is a convenient and nicely stable
4-piece model where the 3 legs are metal tubes which fold up parallel
to the plastic peg for portability. It is very light, but quite
solid on the ground when a clarinet is placed on it, due to the
length of the metal legs. This goes for maybe $18 at most, and is
well worth the additional cost as a purchase of greater stability
and durability for you clarinet.
