I have listened to many Grand Duo recordings, and none compare to Jonathan
Cohler's version. It is played outstandingly and in true romantic form. The
testing points for me when hearing it performed are the 2nd mvt.and operatic
section in the 3rd. Any pro can play the notes, but can they make the
instument sing?
Jon Manasse has a decent recording of the piece, also. Charles Niedich does a
period instrument recording of the Grand Duo with Robert Levin on piano. It
seems a bit lighter than the above two recordings, but still is excellent and
worth the purchase.

BTW, the other day, I happend to hear a radio interview with Mr.Cohler about
conducting the Brockton Symphony along with Boston's Chorus Pro Musica (I
think it's them) in Beethoven's 9th at Jordan Hall. I remember somebody told
me he conducts out of memory! If Mr. Cohler is on the list, could you please
give me more info. I'd make the trip to see that great piece (especially if
it is conducted out of memory).
