The S80's came out, not surprisingly, around 1980. There is now an S90
series, too. (Extra credit question: When did the C85 clarinet mouthpiece
come out? Notice a trend here?) The arch chambers are less edgy. I
cannot explain why the metal one would sound softer, but the facing should
prove more durable in the long run.
