In a message dated 97-09-01 15:05:44 EDT, you write:

<< The people that annoyed me were the
ones who: (a) borrowed _his_ A clarinet, therefore not representing what
they'd
actually be able to play at a concert, or (b) ignored the direction and
played
the material in Bb, and were not disqualified or in any way demerited for
it. I
turned out to be the only applicant who actually tried to transpose the
music.

The question: Is this just my bruised ego talking, or was this not fair?

I had a similar experience with a scholarship audition where it said in the
instructions specifically that all the music (4 pieces) had to be played from
memory, but they actually let some people play from their music (I knew
because they also let other contestants and their parents watch the auditions
if they wanted). I was so mad because I played from memory and made some
mistakes because of a memory slip, and the person who won used her music.
