I think the quality of the data for the synthesizer is not so
good, or the parameter settings is not good, if you feel so;
in other words, it doesn't come from the synthesizer itself, but
from the data manipulator's skill, or the person's skill who
made the data.
I've heard several excellent synthesizer data of classical
music. (I don't mean "Tomita's" arrangements or "Fooked on" series)
I myself make several MIDI data of clarinet pieces, using Roland SC-88
synthesizer. I try to emulating clarinet sounds, musical expressions,
and so forth.
If you have Roland SC-88 (or SC-88VL), I'll send you some.
