If you can wait a year or so this problem will be resolved. Software
and hardware for sending audio clips with e-mail has been around for
years (I've been able to do it with my old NeXT for 5 years!)
Standards for audio formats are being established because of the
rapid growth of the World Wide Web. Most WWW servers have audio
capability now. E-mail audio attachments will probably be common
place within two years.
So, instead of saying "dark" or "bright" we will be able to say
listen to the attached sound clip! (The quality might not be that
great though, so maybe it wont solve the problem, but at least it
will give us something to new to complain about ;-)
While I'm thinking about it, is anyone out there building a www
clarinet (or maybe woodwinds in general) home page? If not --why not?
There should be plenty of computer literate music grad students out
there that have the time and the ability to set it up. (Setting up
homepages is all the rage these days)
