I too bought the set of three. The inherent shortcomings in this
type of musical experience are obvious. However, the benefits for someone
like me who is an amateur with limited exposure to ensemble playing (and
who possesses too great a sense of decorum and sensibility to deliberately
inflict his level of musicality on others) are large. If nothing else,
playing along with these recordings gives you early warning of certain
solipsistic nastinesses and bad habits you might unconsciously be falling
into. Plus they're fun. I would love to know what the sales profiles of
the clarinet series look like; I would sure hope that our good friends at
Sony are sufficiently encouraged to bring out a few more.
