Subj: Jazz bass clarinet - Omer Simeon in 1926
Date: Mon, 9 Jan 1995 16:57:45 -0500

I don't know whether anyone has contributed this item. There is a
recording of Someday Sweetheart, by Jelly Roll Morton's Red Hot Peppers,
Dec. 16, 1926, where Omer Simeon plays bass clarinet. Although Simeon's
performance on some of the Red Hot Peppers pieces is wonderful, I don't think
this one is particularly inspired. But maybe it's the earliest use of bass
clarinet in jazz?
