Subj: [DR-L] Carbon fiber mouthpieces?
Date: Sun, 09 Dec 2007 03:52:59 -0500

Dear Saturday List:
It is not only the oboe which is developing new materials for its
""mouthpiece"'--the tube.
The other evening I sat next to a trumpet player who is using a carbon fiber
mouthpiece and to my ears the new material has more precision and a
"rounder"sound than the traditional brass mouthpieces.
Anyone with experience in the orchestra with these "new"developments for
brass? And could carbon fiber,or whatever it is called in the US, be used
for oboe tubes or bassoon /eh bocals??

A lovely weekend!

Rgds,

Harold Emert
