I'm hesitant to jump into this discussion, as I haven't read any of the
prior posts. However, I solved this weight problem years ago in our rental
program, where our clarinet players are young persons, not yet able to
support the weight of their clarinet. With each of our rentals, we include a
neck strap and a leather accessory that fits comfortably over the existing
thumbrest, and is outfitted with a hole to insert the neck strap hook. This
makes it a lot easier for beginners to support the clarinet (much like a
saxophone). In fact, many of the players continue to use this accessory even
after they get to be adults. We have the neck strap - leather fixture
