Chuck Levin's is where I got my Buffet in 1970.

Mrs. Levin took of me.

Hi everyone,

I guess Chuck Levin's is the place to go. That is where I had bought my
current clarinet. Yes I agree the thumb rest on the clarinet is not in a
good position and there are not many options for positioning in a proper
ergonometric fitting.

When I was a child and teenager 40 some years ago I had a metal clarinet (a
Bb clarinet) and played in the high school band. Never had a problem with
the weight of the instrument and being able to hold it still without making
my thumb tired and achy. I had not played the clarinet for many years.
Then as an adult I bought a Buffet wood clarinet (also a Bb). I am
wondering if a wood clarinet is heavier than a metal clarinet. I dont have
that old metal clarinet anymore so I can't put both side by side to compare
weight and position of thumb rest.

Janice

Arthur,

This is a quick and dirty "fix" I do with all our rental horns in the store.
It still is not high enough, but is a big improvement. It isn't a Bay, but
it is free.

School teachers should do it to the whole clarinet section. First take the
thumb rest off, then cork it using Super Glue. After that re-mount it. Don't
EVER get Super Glue on the plastic.

The cork can be put on a little thick and then shaped. I often just slice
wedges out of composite wine corks.
