Subj: [kl] Thumb Support
Date: Wed, 08 Feb 2012 01:54:14 -0500

Since everybody is built differently there is (imo) no one "correct"
solution. I've found that for me I am most relaxed with a fixed neck strap
and with the thumb placed about 1" above the thumb rest floating under the
strap. I also am most relaxed sitting with the bell resting lightly on my
knee - I just happen to be the right stature for that to work out.

The goal should be to put the hand in the most relaxed posture, (and the
arm, shoulders, neck...)

Looking back it is odd that no teachers ever even suggested trying anything
different than just leaving my thumb crooked under the rigid thumb support.
That was very uncomfortable. I discovered on my own over time that just
didn't work for me.

By the way, it was hard to make the switch - but after a couple of weeks it
felt very natural.
