I own Too Many Clarinets.

Part of this problem is a recent acquisition. Whilst trolling eBay, I came
upon a Selmer series 9* (9 Star), up for sale by Kim Boller of Westwoods
Music. I wanted to by a Series 9 (without the star) or an older LeBlanc
with a big bore for big band doubling work, but this looked so good I
couldn't pass it up. 50 years old, and the pix were pure Clarinet Porn.

I bought the thing, with a right to return it if it wasn't up to snuff.
Less than $1,500 all in.

Holy Zowie!! The horn is like brand-new, only with Valentino pads
throughout, and perfectly regulated! For what I paid, it's at least as good
- and I think *better* - than what you would buy from Selmer or Buffet
today. Note to teachers everywhere: if you have a student who can't drop
three grand on a new Buffet, buy whatever Mr. Boller has for sale on eBay
(or elsewhere). Even the logo has fresh gilding. Seriously - you'd think
it was fresh from the factory. A Deal and a Half for sure. Putting up my
periscope to find a mate - there aren't many 9* made in the key of A, but I
think an early Series 10 would pair nicely, and make a great back-up set to
the Yamaha CSGs that I bought this summer.

. . . but this brings me to my dilemma. I own Too Many Clarinets, and need
to thin the herd a bit. Although I dearly love all of them, no one really
needs to have 2 Cs, 5 Bbs, 3 As plus a Pile of Saxophones etc. So I'll be
selling the following on eBay as soon as I can figure out how to do it.
Since you folks are my online friends, I thought that it would be only fair
to give you first crack.

For sale:

Noblet B45 C - about ten years old, not played all that much (not too many
parts for it). I'd keep it, but Morrie Bakun sold me a LeBlanc C that he
tweaked up for Ricardo Morales, and no one needs two C clarinets. $1,500
OBO. Comes in a nice Leblanc (leather?) case.

Yamaha CSV Bb - bought at the Clarinet Convention in New Orleans, tweaked up
by Hiroshi Nakajima - you can read about it at
http://test.woodwind.org/Databases/lookup.php/Klarinet/2001/10/000118.txt.
It's a great horn, but I like my new CSGs just a bit better. Has a nice
"pochette" style case with a vinyl cover. $1,650 OBO.

Yamaha YCL 72ACS - bought a year before the Bb to play Daphnis & Chloe #2.
Very nice scale; very much like an R13 Buffet, only better. Silver plated
keyboard. I've raved before, see
http://test.woodwind.org/Databases/lookup.php/Klarinet/2006/05/000150.txt.
Comes in a double case with case cover, $1,500. Makes a *dandy* set with
the Bb CSV. (These were my orchestral horns for some time).

Marigaux RS Bb - this is a *cool* horn, a clarinet that could only be made
by oboe makers. I bought it off of eBay, had it completely overhauled by
Paul Woltz here in Seattle, who put on a full set of Valentinos and
otherwise tweaked it to perfection. (My earlier post on it at
http://test.woodwind.org/Databases/lookup.php/Klarinet/2011/04/000049.txt.)
I've searched, but can't find a mate for it in A, so it won't work for me
orchestrally. Since it doesn't have the Big Bite I'm looking for to use in
the big band or the pit, probably best to make SWMBO happy and sell it. Ben
Hochstrasser put up pictures of his at
http://www.hochstrasser.org/wiki/pmwiki.php/Clarinet/Marigaux - better
pictures than I could take. Mine is in better condition, though, in a new
Allora foam case from WWBS. $1,750 OBO.

I'm going to put a bunch of mouthpieces up too. For example, Kim Boller
sent an absolutely *perfect* NOS Selmer B with the 9* - it's pristine, but
too close of a tip for me. This will go for $100 OBO.

I'd rather give my listmates a price cut than pay eBay their vig, so please
contact me off list if you have an interest in any of these artifacts.

Best,

kjf
