The problem is I don't think you can build a community band concert program
out of the Holst and Vaughan Williams suites, marches and a lot of old
transcriptions of orchestral overtures. Most of the music than populates the
programs of modern American bands (whether community- or school-based) was
written from the 1950s on, mostly for school band programs at the high
school and college levels. I can't imagine a community band today repeatedly
playing concerts consisting of one piece by Holst, Vaughan Williams or maybe
Grainger, three or four Sousa and King (or similar) marches and several
transcriptions of opera or concert overtures that were popular with
orchestra audiences at the turn of the 20th century.

Maybe I'm wrong - I haven't played in a true community band in a very long
time - but that sounds more like a niche ensemble than a community band.
