Exactly my point, Marty. There are so many things that affect pitch. I
would search out the less expensive options, BEFORE the most expensive
barrel purchase. You could make a day trip out to see Phil and Pam Muncy
for mouthpieces. Just call and make an appointment. There are some very
good inexpensive mouthpieces out there (under $100 US). Phil will have
combinations of barrels and mouthpieces, so you can see what works best for
you. And he can check the clarinet to see if something there is causing
the problem. I might suggest looking in the upper joint at the placement
of the thumb tube, and make sure it is set so the curve of it matches (is
in the same plane as) the curve of the bore. Back then they didn't bother
about its placement.
