Hello all,

I gave my son an older Evette & Schaeffer Master Model clarinet. It
has what I believe to be the original barrel, which turns out to be
65 mm. Strangely enough, it doesn't say on the barrel what length it
is. In any case, the instrument is VERY flat. I put on a 64 mm barrel
and it is still flat. So maybe someone can answer 3 questions for me:
1. How can a Buffet with a 64 mm barrel be flat?
2. Buffet makes an A barrel of 63 mm, but its Bb barrels start at 64
mm. Anyone know why? (I guess it doesn't matter, as I remember doing
experiments in college and finding that there didn't seem to be any
noticeable difference between the A and Bb barrels, so I'll probably
get the 63 mm one)
3. I see that Morrie Backun has barrels that don't have rings. Won't
they be more prone to cracking? Has anyone had experience with them?

Thanks all.
