The use of MIDI for the practice room is a good aide.
What distresses me is it is replacing studio orchestras in MANY soundtracks
these days. You may have a couple live musicians (generally woodwinds), but
the bulk of the movie soundtrack is electronic. If you haven't noticed this
yet, pay attention to the strings (perfectly synchronized) and lifeless,
with never a bow sound. Brass too appears to be easily reproduced
electronically, with never/ever a less than perfect attack.
Just what the world need, cheap homogenized music. Ain't it wonderful. Such
nuance of expression! Haven't we come far!
Sad. very sad.
