I was curious and did some googling... One place said "sledgehammer, mallet" and a family crest for schlegel had a sledgehammer looking thing on it. then I found this website that says "Echter Wiener Schlegel" which translated to... Genuine Viennese Schlegel and it is a timpani mallet website. http://www.mallets.at/history Tom
