You're correct Steve,

I went back and re-read the original post and was discovered that I was
taking his nomenclature literally as far as the key names he referenced. The
part of the mechanism that he referred to are, the E/B side lever, and the
F/C side lever (not keys, as I thought; keys having cups with pads, and
levers being without pad cups and act only as levers). I guess the good news
is that this thread now ends-up with answers to two unrelated problems.
Sorry for the confusion, and thanks for pointing it out.

I thought that Tom was referring to the Left Hand levers for the E/B and
F#/C# keys: that he removed the little Teflon pieces that Buffet tried using
for a while as a replacement for the metal ones, which required fish skin
(or a synthetic replacement, never cigarette paper) to silence. I guess the
problem was that the Teflon pieces broke too easily....
