James,

I'm playing it right now (well, not RIGHT now, but, you know what I mean).
As I understand it, there are several versions of the score. The version we
are using has 4 parts. The 1st and 2nd parts are all Bb and A clarinet.
The 3rd part is a combo of Bb/A and Bass and the 4th part is exclusively Eb
(with the exception of 2 measures at the end of one of the movements...that
two measure passage is on Bb).

I hope this helps,

Richard Dryer

Subject: [kl] Mahler 1

I will be playing Mahler's Symphony No. 1 in January. I have not played
this symphony before. I am pretty sure there are four clarinet parts with
at
least one playing some E-flat and one playing some bass. Can anyone tell me
how the parts are laid out? I think the second and maybe the first plays
some E-flat and the fourth might play some bass, but I am not certain of
this.

Thanks in advance,

James Marioneaux
