Quintet of the Americas Presents National Hispanic Heritage Celebration =

Concert in Queens on October 9 =96 Presented in Cooperation with Latin =

American Cultural Center of Queens

New York, NY =96 The Quintet of the Americas will perform a National =

Hispanic Heritage Celebration concert on Sunday, October 9 =96 1:00 PM at =

the New York Hall of Science, 47-01 111th St., Flushing Meadow Corona =

Park in Queens, New York. The event is presented in cooperation with the =

Latin American Cultural Center of Queens.

The program will include Songs and Dances of Macondo by Judah E. Adashi, =

based on the novel, One Hundred Years of Solitude by Nobel Prize-winning =

Colombian author Gabriel Garcia Marquez. The Quintet will also perform =

dance music from Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico and Dominican Republic, =

including Danza de mediodia by Mexico=92s Arturo Marquez.

This will be part of a special family day, celebrating Latin American =

contributions to science and culture, and will include special displays, =

videos, interactive games, face painting, and much more. The event is a =

collaboration between New York Hall of Science and the Latin American =

Cultural Center of Queens.

Admission to the October 9 event is free before 11:00 AM, and after 11, =

admission is adults $11.00 and $8.00 for children, students and seniors.

Members of Quintet of the Americas are Karla Moe, flute, Matt Sullivan, =

oboe, Nicholas Gallas, clarinet, Barbara Oldham, horn and Maureen =

Strenge, bassoon. Founded in Bogota, Colombia in 1976, the Quintet has =

specialized in bringing music from the Western hemisphere to audiences =

in the United States since its arrival in New York in 1979. The group =

has enjoyed an international career that has taken them to concert halls =

throughout the Americas and Eastern Europe. They are currently in =

residence in The Department of Music and Performing Arts in The =

Steinhardt School at New York University. Visit their website at =
