Many thanks to Ken and others for their generous help, information and
suggestions. There seems to be quite a lot that we don't know. If I knew the
year when production started (Serial No. 0001) and stopped (c. 1x,xxxx), it
would be possible roughly to gauge the average annual output and therefore
deduce the date from the serial number to the nearest year +/- 5 yrs. I have
no use for this detail myself. The question originally came from Germany
where such careless oversights are neither understood nor possible. I am
going to ask them to carbon14 date it at their leading instrument museum in
Nuremberg, and compare it with known French Neolithic sites, after which it
will probably never play again. I play an Uebel.
