Subj: [kl] Replacement bell?
Date: Sun, 04 Sep 2011 22:20:56 -0400

Ever since I had a crack filled in it last December, the bell of my A clarinet (Buffet R13) frequently gets stuck on the tenon of the lower joint. This has been happening year-round during the past year, so I'm not sure how much humidity changes are messing with it. In order to get the bell off the lower joint, I have to rock it back and forth when twisting won't budge it. I don't remember this happening before I had the crack filled (the crack was in the tenon socket, and I think my tech shimmed the ring, too). I remember the first time I put it together after I got it back: It was New Years Eve late at night, and I spent the better part of the first 3 hours of this year trying to get things unstuck.

Is there something I can do short of having the bell socket or lower joint tenon shaved, or should I look into a replacement bell? If replacement is the ultimate answer, what bells are out there that will fit my clarinet? The fact that the bell ring still cuts me sometimes is another vote for me to replace it.

Thanks!

Rachel
