Subj: [kl] bass clarinet register pads adjustment
Date: Sun, 28 Aug 2011 23:15:09 -0400

Hi everyone,
=A0
The thread today about adjusting the lower joint of a Selmer bass reminded =
of one of my "mysteries of the universe"; how to adjust out play in the 2 r=
egister pads on the upper joint of bass clarinets that use the 'balance bea=
m' or seesaw-type mechanism (I play a Buffet that has several blessed adjus=
tment screws to simplify this process). I recently tried=A0a bass=A0with th=
e=A0problem of the throat Bb sounding thin and sharp as the=A0reg. pad that=
's supposed to close wasn't fully...but playing with the one adjusting scre=
w meant the *other* pad wouldn't seal for the higher clarion notes.
=A0
I've never understood what one must do to line these both up properly, any =
hints would be gratefully accepted!
=A0
Thanks a lot,
=A0
