I have had that exact same problem on the same notes. Check to see if the
pad right above the 1st finger right hand is not closing because the bridge
key touches together before the top pad is totally sealing shut, There are
the 2 adjustment screws at the top of the lower joint that adjust that
clearance. Study them to see which one does that adjustment.

You need a (hand) swager and drill for (1) and the right size reamer for
(2).

Your advice is very sound. As to my problem the rods are screwed up tight.
The shoulders of the keys are not a snug fit between the pillars. Shimming
would be difficult - I think the instrument is basically "clapped out" to
use the technical term. However I can still get some fun out of it.....
