Neoprene is a possibility; its sealing properties are similar to Viton,
though it is more temperature sensitive. I would prefer Viton was chosen for
its better temperature stability for hot glue mounting.

However, you can't use the high density (non-foam) variety of either, as it
simply sticks too well to the tone hole.

Wolfgang Lohff and Andrew Kirby in the UK have done and continue to do much
research on pad materials. The story is not over.

Hi, Is there any reason that you could not use Neoprene rubber? It is used
in many engineering valves that use very much higher pressure than the lungs
can produce.
