The Bliss is a masterpiece. I like the Hindemith very much - it's an
early work (later revised, and you can play either edition) that is
very difficult for the strings. The central movement is a large
scherzo for Eb clarinet. The fourth movement is simple but very cool!
There is also the Reicha, Weber, Francaix, Isang Yun (two), Dan
Welcher wrote a great one!, Zwillich is only ok IMO, Golijov is
Excellent, three charming Heinrich Baermann Quintets and a quartet
(not as good), Kokai and Marteu (not familiar with these last two much).
I also wrote TWO quintets, one based on Beatles songs - you can hear
and see them at my website http://www.osbornmusic.com/workslist.html
Additionally, you can give a violinist a rest and do the following Quartets:
Mozart - 3 different ones
Crussel - 3 also - VERY good
Penderecki
Hoffmeister
Krommer
Stamitz
Cheers,
Sean Osborn
