These are really good, I agree, the Legere signatures are the best of the synthetics though they are quirky and take a couple minutes to get going the first time you play on it, after that they work great! I would go with about a 3 as well, with the Legere's if you get it and it's too hard or soft you can mail it back to them and they will exchange it for a different size.

Legere Signature cut #3. Legere also makes a student reed which is
heaper but the Signature is the closest to a cane reed in feel and
ound.
