Subject: [kl] Basset clarinet extension

>Can I presume that a Fox basset horn right-hand joint for an A clarinet,
would not work successfully as a right hand joint for a B-flat clarinet?

Correct. The hole spacings differ.

>If my hypothesis is correct, one would need two such joints if one were
serious about playing basset clarinet music on both a B-flat and an A
instrument. I ask because there are a few very important parts for B-flat
basset clarinet in the Mozart repertoire, one of which is the big solo in
Titus, "Parto, parto," and the other, also in Titus, as part of the
instrumental accompaniment but which and is not a solo.

Also correct. I don't have a Bb basset joint, as for an amateur I decided it
was not worth it for just one opera in which I am now unlikely to play, fine
though it is. The quintet and concerto are different.
