I personally wouldn't play it. I don't really like any movement of the quintet. Just kidding. well it's true... but just kidding that that's my answer. I haven't looked at the score or played it in forever. and i'm certainly not an authority on this subject. But I did listen to it and I know what I would do (dont have measure numbers or anything) I heard clear spots where I would add scales in 3rds. (very short passages like maybe 4 notes worth of a scale in 3rds just to fill in intervals and link notes together) I Would also add a few turns in where I felt it was appropriate. Just a few measures in at the reprise (I'm guessing at pitches) theres a small rest with some string filler and then I think the clarinet has a C. During the rests I would start at a lower pitch than what I ended on and do a 16th note scale up to the C. probably "+a 4 e + a CCCCCCC" maybe change some octaves who knows. I assume your just looking for ideas. I would go all out (within reason). When I listened to the piece... as I skipped around it seemed no matter what time I skipped to the same note and same chord were playing and always a held note. so if it was me... I would make sure that didn't happen on the "reprise" ( I play a lot of baroque music on recorder and clarinet) When I change things up I ALWAYS change the melody line somewhere (as long as it's repeated) I'll play the same rythms just different notes usually off by a 3rd or 6th but not always. I'm not accusing you of this but just saying just in case: a lot of times people hear "improvisation" and "embellishments" and think ok "add more notes" often when I do something in baroque I'll slap a whole note right over the melody and just hold it out for a measure or longer and let the accompaniment go and it works out great when put in the right spot. I generally pick a high-ish note for effect. Also sometimes if something is descending I'll change the direction for a few notes and maybe do a skip back down to where it should be and vice versa. I know again, I think this got a little more general than what you wanted... but I would work all of these elements into any piece where I am improvising. I also think if someone sat down and told you exact notes and measures then it might influence you too much unless thats what you want. In which case I dont have a score anymore and couldn't help. Tom
