I also use a German m/p (Wurlitzer) with a string ligature, which I use
because I think it sounds better (on a reform Boehm). However, I am ignorant
of the fine tuning aspect. Thinking about it, I guess that making the string
tighter forces a little curvature in the reed as it conforms to the dip;
this would make the reed stiffer. Is this the effect that you use?

Hello,

I'm back from holiday. I request a dip because I play old fashioned German
system kind of opening!
You need the so called "Hohlkehle" to make the reed vibrate. And the power
you use with the STRING ligature gives you the possibility to finetune the
whole thing:-))
