Dear list,

Two (ahem, five) questions:

Can anyone recommend a recorder mailing list?

Can anyone recommend a medically oriented mailing list, website etc.?

In April of last year I was involved in a car crash that has left me
bed-ridden and confined to a wheelchair, with some ability to use crutches.
During my recuperation, I turned to Klarinet and the clarinet as an outlet
and for mental stimulation. Unfortunately, I also have a very hard time
with chapped lips and have had several exposures to chopped up warts of
various kinds. During this recuperation, I have a strong suspicion that the
lack of physical activity reduced blood circulation and my immune system did
not fight the warts very well and in the position of some chapped lip
induced sores, I developed some lesions on my lip, that for all I can tell
are warts. The physician I saw asked me whether they bothered me (I seem to
have lost a certain measure of mental stability and circumstances left me
saying no), but of course, they do bother me (I wouldn't have asked to get
rid of them if they didn't). I want to get rid of them and I don't want
them to spread. So, I turned to recorder (I don't have the chapped lip
problem with recorder and I thought avoiding broken skin would reduce their
chances of spreading, especially since they appeared in positions where I
had scabs).

Do you know of cases of warts on lips and clarinet playing? How do you
avoid them spreading?

How do you avoid chapped lips?

I have used Aquaphor, vaseline, vitamin A and D ointment, Carmex, ChapStick,
LipSmacker and I am trying some stuff from an Antioch University
promotional. A physician gave me a spiel on vaseline; my fallback standard
and I think her spiel made it more effective for me (she said use it at
least three times per day) I have had the best luck with Aquaphor. I think
it is the lanolin in addition to the petroleum jelly. Anhydrous lanolin
does not handle well for me. ChapStick was waxy (It has been a long time).
Carmex anaesthetized my skin. Lip Smacker smelled good.

Lately, I have been having rather bad trouble with upper abdominal
bloating. Burping makes it feel better, but does not take care of the
problem. The air resistance (back pressure) playing clarinet sort of shifts
things around, to get me to burp more, but is not particularly effective. I
thought I might take up oboe or crumhorn; something with more backpressure,
but I don't have the budget for that. It is hard enough scraping together
money for medical bills etc. Suggestions? I suspect good social
interaction will solve the problem, but my social skills are abysmal.

I welcome responses on or off list.

Thank you for your kind attention.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Jones
