There are open, closed mouthpieces, and mouthpieces between. A closed mouthpiece has less distance between the tip of the reed and the tip of the mouthpiece than does an open mouthpiece. Measured in milimeters. You can find charts (usually by ordering a catalog either from Weiner Music or Woodwind and Brasswind) that give you measurements. Most mouthpieces have different names -- or something to differentiate one mouthpiece from another in any manufacturer's line. Closed mouthpieces tend to work well with #3-5 reeds; medium-closed, with softer reeds; and very open mouthpieces with soft (2-2.5 but probably not less resistant). Both music stores (or any other you know of that produces a catalog) have web sites and one should be able to request a catalog by mail (and then find out what other fun things for clarinets there are)!! Good luck!

I agree strongly with the above.
A Yamaha C4 is a 'close' mouthpiece by most standards and with a Rico
2.5 will not allow you to develop your tone or allow you sufficient
control over intonation. I cannot speak of the Debut m/p as I have no
experience of it.
Pardon my ignorance, but what's a "close" mouthpiece?
Thanks,
