Hi Mary,

I think you will find the Fobes Debut mouthpiece to be a revelation in how
good a mouthpiece can feel. I got one years ago when they first came out,
and was amazed at how easy it was to play.

As far as reed strength, with the Fobes you will probably want a stronger
reed. When I was a "rebeginner", I had been using a 2 or 2 1/2 ( which is
what I had used in high school), but I eventually went to a 4 on the Fobes
line of mouthpieces as my chops developed.

Reed strength must be matched to not only your playing style, but also to
the design of the mouthpiece. The Fobes has what is termed a "closed" facing.
Closed facing mouthpieces enable you to play harder reeds. Conversely, open
facings may require less heavy reeds. Stronger reeds do not mean "better
player". The Fobes line generally likes a stronger reed.
