Many people believe that reeds continue to improve as they age. Some
folks have a cache of reeds they bought in the 1960s that they still
pull out for special occasions. (Ah, appreciate the bouquet!)

Remember that the strength scales are not consistent. A Rico 2.5 is
quite different from a Vandoren 2.5. To overgeneralize, the Vandoren
scale tends to be between 0.5 and 1.0 harder than a Rico of the same
number. Most of the other manufacturers follow one or the other of
those two. I believe Woodwind & Brasswind has some equivalency charts.
