I would part company with Arthur on this one. I suspect one of the reasons
Mary is getting the honky "tone tone tone" (rather than "single phrase")
aspect in her playing is that her setup is TOO RESISTANT for her present
abilities. The fact that her tone tends also to be unfocused and lacks
support would bolster that conclusion. If I recall, she is also dealing with
some medical issues. She needs LESS resistance, not more, to make sustaining
the notes more comfortable for her.

My suggestion would be for her to try a Debut mouthpiece (by Clark Fobes,
widely available online, not expensive) and see what reed works best for her
on that (since she has a variety of reeds available to try).
