Following a message a few years back I tried out the 'Velcro cable ties' , =
which you can buy in ready-made strips with a light card backing. I rather =
liked them, but haven't used them for a while. I did find that a reed that =
might be borderline-hard on a standard ligature might play a little bit mor=
e readily, out of the box, with a Velcro one. If I am practicing I often =
switch ligatures and/or mouthpieces if a reed seems to work better in one s=
etup than another. OK, I should probably put more effort into prepping the=
reed, but perhaps it is also good, anyway, to switch setups every now and =
again just to freshen up your idea of your own sound. =

It seemes that Fred and Marcia agree with me. Velcro is in a way a solution=
. It=B4s at least worth trying. Does anybody play permanently with velcro l=
igature? =

Martin points out, that one can=B4t change from Bb to A (or the other way a=
round) without missing "the entrance". Sorry, I don=B4t know this word, but=
I=B4ve just changed my mouthpiece with a velcro ligature from Bb to A. It =
took me 9 sec. (if one use the same barrel on both instruments it could be =
done even faster). All right, in a symphony orchestra (where I=B4m not play=
ing) this is not to be recommended. Ligatures cost where I live not $ 10, b=
ut $ 150. And Martin! I dont like the sarcasm in your suggestion to glue th=
e reed to the mouthpiece. In my opinion this list, among many other things,=
is a forum, where amateurs like myself can get advice about playing the cl=
arinet, done in this openminded, truely american way, that we europeans rea=
lly do admire. =
