It's such a personal experience that I almost hesitate to share. I've
tried several of the Fibracell reeds, but have never been happy with
them. Only one has managed to stick around. The others went in the
trash can.

I have had excellent results with the L=E8g=E9re reeds; I've been a fan of
his since the beginning. They are a little bright, so there are some
concerts where I keep them in reserve. However, with my Eb clarinet,
the L=E8g=E9re was life-changing. I really didn't like playing my Eb very
much until I gambled on the L=E8g=E9re. Now, I get great sound without
working so darned hard, in tune clear up to the altissimo.

Recently, I decided to try the new Japanese Forestone reeds. It took a
while to find the right strength (I play a 3.00 or 3.25 L=E8g=E9re, but I
need a 4 in the Forestone), but that has now become my #1 reed. The
difference is a little hard to quantify, but it seems to me that the
tone I get is more stable.

I use a Portnoy BP02 mouthpiece with a medium facing. It has been a gem
for me for more than 15 years.
