What a breath of fresh air! After all the recent waffle on materials
etc. May I ask your experience with non-reed reeds?
I have been using Hahn and Fibracell for about three years and am
quite happy with them. Getting the strength right has been important
and they can be tiring to play in the altissimo register as the
higher harmonics are more 'reluctant' than a cane reed. I think R.
Mazzeo has written something to this effect regarding his use of
plastic reeds at one time in the Boston Symphony, though I don't
think Hahn or Fibracell would have been available at that time.
They do work well on saxophone but not with an open facing m/p, at
least in my case.
