I'm about to try a plastic reed . . . even though I play mostly on Vandoren
4s. The weather was uncomfortably humid and unsettled at Sunday's concert
and both my reeds closed up -- so did one or two other's. That has to be
a good reason to invest the higher priced plastic to see what happens. I
know several Sax players who swear by them. I can't imagine plastic has a
problem in humid conditions.

Right. I've been principal clarinetist with the Tualatin Valley
Community Band for 21 years now. I'm arrogant enough to consider myself
one of the key contributors to the band's sound. Newcomers to the
clarinet section are usually quite surprised to learn that I'm playing
on a plastic Leblanc Vito clarinet with a plastic reed.
