Subj: [kl] Confirmation of Stan Hasty's death
Date: Sat, 25 Jun 2011 10:47:52 -0400

Here are two emails that act as absolute and positive confirmation of the death of Stan Hasty. Michael Webster, who was at one time, the principal clarinet with the San Francisco Symphony, wrote the first and Ray Ricker, who is the professor of saxophone at Eastman, wrote the second. There is also a link to the obit in the Rochester, NY newspaper.

Dear Ray and everyone who received this letter,

I was kept apprised of Stan's situation by our dear friend Ned Corman, so I knew that this trip to the hospital might be his last. I imagine that many former students on this list knew that Stan had a serious intestinal ailment during the winter which involved a long hospitalization and arduous recovery. But I hope everyone will find some comfort in knowing that I visited the Hastys a month ago, May 20 to be exact, and that he was in very good shape, getting around OK and demonstrating his usual sharp intellect and wit. A lunch date turned into three hours of animated conversation both with and without their wonderful granddaughter Carlin, who has been living with them while attending Penfield High School.

I've contacted Jim Gillespie, who is in Europe and has extended the usual deadline for submission of articles to The Clarinet magazine. So I'll be able to write a short remembrance to be added to the September issue.

We have all suffered the loss of our beloved mentor, but he lived 91 influential and productive years, a life to celebrate. We have come to love June and extend to her and the family our heartfelt condolences.

Dear former Hasty students,

You may have heard by now, but I am sad to tell you that Stan passed away at 1 PM yesterday. According to David Van Hoesen, Stan's entire family was there with him at the moment of his passing. I'm thinking that within the next few days further information will be made available in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. http://obits.democratandchronicle.com/obituaries/democratandchronicle/

Warm regards,

Ray
