Rachel, funny and coincidental that you should broach this issue. Just yesterday I phoned local repair shop to inquire about the same problem I was having with the "previously enjoyed" King alto sax I just purchased. The repair person said to just coat the threads with clear nail polish, which I then did with great success. Try it on your clarinet screw.
