I would agree that that is not a good idea, but that is not what the
Hercules stand does. The bell rests on a cup at the bottom of the stand and
in a U shaped socket at the top - just like the K&M stand, though the
Hercules is a bit more padded. There is no more stress on the tenon than
there is in normal use, when the load is on the peg, attached to the bell,
supporting the instrument through the tenon.

Mine is a C bass and I feel it is secure in either stand - far more so than
leaving it on a chair or on an instrument case in a dark pit.

I agree with Gary, holding a bass clarinet solely by the bell puts too
much stress on the tenon. Not the best idea, IMHO.
