The trouble with a bass clarinet stand is that the instrument/stand
combination is top-heavy, unlike a sax stand, where the bell and the
cradle that holds it are halfway up the instrument. Anyone can knock
a bass over just by brushing against it, which means the end of the
night for the instrument plus a substantial repair bill. The bass,
unlike the Bb, needs to be handled like a baby.

There's a home-made contrabass stand that looks solid at
<http://forum.saxontheweb.net/showthread.php?141067-My-new-Leblanc-contrabass-clarinet-stand.&p=1461547#post1461547>,
which should be adaptable to fit under the curve of your bass neck .
You must register (free) for SOTW to view it, but you should do that
anyway.

The Blayman stand is expensive and heavy but solid

For a low-C bass or straight contra, I wouldn't trust any stand. Put
the case flat on the floor and fold a beach towel or old blanket to
lay over it to hold the instrument gently.

If the piece you're playing bass for doesn't call for miscellaneous
percussion, negotiate with the percussionists to move their rolling
traps box over next to you. It's always covered with carpet to muffle
cymbals, tambourines, etc.
