I checked Goodman's date of death -- June 1986. I suspect the wrong
information that Sotheby's is putting out is that he played it in the 30s.
Unless, of course, it was a prototype 10S that was given to him by Selmer for
use and critiquing before it went into production. That theory is probably
a real stretch, though, given the 40-year span. I'd suggest the horn is
one he used in his later playing years. The mouthpiece is probably also a
specialty. One which was made to his specifications to use with the horn
and from his favorite blank stock.

Anyone for a go at calling Sothebys to clarify what they really have?
There seems to be a fairly large disconnect between what they're professing to
auction and what it really is.

Hi all,

It also comes as a huge surprise (for me, at least) that BG was able to
play
a Series 1OS Selmer clarinet in the 30s,
I thought this model only appeared in the 70s in the Selmer range... Any
idea ?

Christophe.
