Rachel,

I can only say what I know works for me. The way I fix tuning is: I just have to know what pitch it is. I just rely on the "voice in my head" to sing it and then play it (well more like at the same time somehow). Well I shouldn't say i JUST do that. I also discovered that I need a slightly longer barrel and I've learned to keep my tounge high in the back of my mouth. Obviously, my problem was being sharp not flat. But if I was you, I would go to a keyboard or something and play a P5 and just get in my head what that should sound like. Then play the interval and just make it sound right. It seems ridiculous and impossible that it could work but somehow it works for me. Hopefully you can find some good in it too. I have the advantage that I found a setup that's working for me so I know if I'm out of tune its an adjustment I can make not an equipment problem. Although, I am a beleiver that one can overcome any equipment problem (aside from unctrollable things like keys jsut not working and broken reeds) Basically, the issue MIGHT be that you just aren't familiar with what an in tune P5 sounds like and are relying on the instrument to tell you.
