I am pretty short and as I have started playing sax again after many
years I have also found it hard to get into a comfortable position,
especially on tenor. I don't use a harness (although I have been
thinking about it).
One thing is to be sure and use a strap that is wide enough to
distribute the weight on your neck. When I started playing in the 1960s,
everyone used a firm narrow strap that was pretty uncomfortable (I
always made sure to wear a shirt with a collar). Sax straps have
improved greatly since then. I am using a Neotech Soft Sax Strap. Even
though I am short I needed the X-Long (even for alto).
I would be interested in comments and recommendations for harnesses on
tenor.
